WhatsApp Cloud API · Coexistence
Connect your WhatsApp to the official API without losing your number
Your team keeps chatting from the phone. The same number feeds your CRM and your bot.
Heads-up: you can write in English, but for now we reply on WhatsApp in Spanish.
- Official Meta feature
- No ban risk
- Up to 6 months of history
How it works
-
01Use the WhatsApp Business app
The number has to run on the WhatsApp Business app (not regular WhatsApp), version 2.24.17 or later, with real use in recent days.
-
02Scan the QR code
Meta's embedded sign-up shows a QR code. Open WhatsApp Business → Settings → Linked devices and scan it.
-
03Let it sync
Keep the app open while it syncs: up to 6 months of your 1:1 chat history comes into the CRM. It can take a few hours.
-
04Keep the app
Confirm "Keep the WhatsApp Business app". Your number is not taken over: it keeps working on the phone and now also on the API.
Pricing
US$ 96/month
Linking your number is free. DoubleTick platform: US$ 150 one-time setup · 7 days free.
Meta's per-message fees are not included: Meta charges them by message category and the recipient's country. Meta's official pricing.
What is WhatsApp Coexistence?
It's Meta's official way (launched in May 2025) to run one WhatsApp number in two places at the same time: the WhatsApp Business app on your phone and the WhatsApp Cloud API.
Your team keeps answering from the phone as always and, in parallel, the same number powers your CRM, your bot and your campaigns.
What you get
- You don't lose your WhatsApp: the API is added in parallel, it doesn't replace the app.
- No ban risk: it's Meta's official route, unlike unofficial WhatsApp Web connectors.
- Your history comes in: up to 6 months of 1:1 chats are loaded into your CRM.
- What your team sends from the phone is mirrored in the CRM (official smb_message_echoes webhook).
- Bot replies 24/7, a shared inbox for your team and lead routing.
- Click-to-WhatsApp ad attribution and official templates to re-engage after the 24-hour window.
Coexistence vs. standard Cloud API vs. unofficial connectors
Keep using WhatsApp on the phone?
- Unofficial connector
- Yes, with an unofficial session (risky)
- Standard Cloud API
- No: the number lives only on the API
- Coexistence
- Yes: app and API in parallel
Ban risk
- Unofficial connector
- High: Meta forbids unofficial wrappers
- Standard Cloud API
- None (official)
- Coexistence
- None (official)
Accepts a number already in use?
- Unofficial connector
- Takes it anyway
- Standard Cloud API
- Rejects it if active
- Coexistence
- Yes, without removing it from the phone
Previous chat history
- Unofficial connector
- Only what the device syncs
- Standard Cloud API
- You start from zero
- Coexistence
- Up to 6 months of 1:1 chats
Requirements
- WhatsApp Business app (SMB), version 2.24.17 or later. Regular WhatsApp does not work.
- Recent, steady use of the app: Meta checks real activity before enabling the API on the number.
- Your business set up in Meta Business Manager (verified is even better).
- If the number was on another WhatsApp Business API before, there may be a waiting period. Unofficial apps do not count as a previous API.
What does not sync, and what turns off in the app
It syncs up to 6 months of 1:1 chats. It does not bring over:
- Groups, disappearing messages and "view once" messages.
- WhatsApp for Windows / WearOS.
- Media (photos, audio, video) only travels for messages from the last 14 days; text comes in full.
- When you link, Meta turns off in the app: broadcast lists, and disappearing messages, "view once" and live location in 1:1 chats. The replacement for broadcast lists is campaigns with official templates.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose WhatsApp on my phone if I connect the API?
No. With "Keep the WhatsApp Business app" enabled, the number is not taken over and you keep using it on the phone as always. The standard Cloud API onboarding takes the number exclusively; coexistence adds the API in parallel.
Is it safe? Can my number get banned?
It's Meta's official route, so there is no ban risk for using an unauthorized connector. The risk of being blocked comes from unofficial apps that scan a WhatsApp Web QR code to send at scale: Meta forbids them.
Does my chat history sync?
Yes. Meta syncs up to 6 months of your 1:1 chat history. Groups, disappearing messages, "view once" messages and WhatsApp for Windows or WearOS do not sync.
How much does it cost?
Linking is free. Meta charges per message by category and by the recipient's country (see Meta's official pricing). The DoubleTick platform is US$ 96 per month plus US$ 150 one-time setup, with 7 days free.
